Google Drive and File Attachments
Tasks are more useful when the files they depend on live right next to them. Loomstack lets you attach files directly from Google Drive (as well as Dropbox and OneDrive), with live previews and permission awareness — attached Drive files always reflect the latest version, so there’s no risk of working from a stale copy.
Connecting Google Drive
- Go to Settings > Integrations
- Search for “Google Drive” and click Connect
- Sign in with your Google account and grant Loomstack read access to your Drive
- Click Allow — the connection applies only to your account, so each teammate connects their own Drive
Dropbox and OneDrive connect the same way from the same screen.
Attaching Drive Files to a Task
- Open a task and click the paperclip icon (or press
Shift+A) - Choose Google Drive from the source list
- Browse or search your Drive in the file picker
- Select one or more files and click Attach
Attached files appear in the task’s Attachments section with the file type icon, owner, and last-modified time. Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, and images render an inline preview when clicked — no need to leave Loomstack.
You can also paste a Drive sharing link directly into a task description or comment; Loomstack unfurls it into a rich attachment card automatically.
Handling File Permissions
Loomstack never changes your Drive permissions. If a teammate opens an attachment they don’t have access to, they’ll see a Request Access button that routes through Google’s standard sharing flow.
To avoid access friction on team projects:
- Keep shared files in a team Drive or a shared folder
- When attaching, Loomstack shows a yellow Limited access badge if the file isn’t visible to everyone in the project
- Click the badge to open Google’s sharing dialog and widen access before your teammates hit a wall
Uploading Files Directly
For files that don’t live in a cloud drive:
- Drag and drop files anywhere onto an open task
- Or click the paperclip icon and choose Upload from computer
Direct uploads are stored by Loomstack with a limit of 250 MB per file on Pro plans (25 MB on Free). Uploaded images can be annotated: hover over a preview and click Annotate to draw, add arrows, or drop numbered pins for feedback.
Searching and Managing Attachments
- Use the global search (
Ctrl/Cmd+K) and filter by Has attachment to find tasks with files - Each project has a Files tab listing every attachment across its tasks, sortable by date, type, or uploader
- To remove an attachment, hover over it and click the trash icon — this removes the link only and never deletes the file from Drive
Summary
Connect Google Drive from the Integrations settings, then attach files via the paperclip icon, drag-and-drop, or by pasting a sharing link. Watch for the Limited access badge to fix permissions early, and use the project Files tab to keep track of every document tied to your work.
